About Us

The Organization:  Since 1981, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge has been helping kids from tough neighborhoods in the  Baton Rougearea to stay out of trouble, stay in school, and succeed in life.  The organization owns and operates  15 safe program sites  where kids can spend time after school and during the summer.

Not just after school hangouts, the Clubs are places where young people come to learn, do homework, develop social skills, express themselves creatively, and participate in sports.  The Clubs are staffed by full-time professionals and located in neighborhoods where they are needed most.

The  Youth We Serve:  Boys & Girls Club of Greater  Baton Rouge serves more than 1,800 kids from the inner city each year.  The majority of kids we serve come to the Clubs several times each week and participate in a variety of activities.  To many, the Clubs are truly a "home away from home."

  • 93% of our members are eligible for free or reduced school lunches (families earn less than $25,000 annually).
  • The majority of kids we serve live in single-parent households.
  • 91% of our members belong to ethnic/racial minority groups.
  • Members spend, on average, 3.3 hours a day in one of our Clubs during the school year and 5.3 hours per day during the summer.

Volunteer Opportunities:  We are always looking for volunteers interested in helping young people build life skills, learn about their community, and explore and develop their creativity.  Volunteers can help children by reading to them, helping with homework, teaching skills in a computer lab, coaching a sports team, or assisting with arts and crafts projects.  A variety of opportunities exist year-round.  For more information, please click   here.
